Those divine beings praise the Supreme with hymns,
the Sun, Fire, and Wind worship with sacred chants
and scriptures. Sages and yogis meditate upon that
Supreme, seeking union, and those who attain
realization sing His glory.
Arjuna said:
O Keshava (Krishna), how does a person of steady
wisdom, who is absorbed in meditation, speak, sit,
walk, and act? How does such a sage behave in
daily life?
The Blessed Lord said:
One who has given up all desires arising from the
mind, who is content in the Self alone, such a
person is called a person of steady wisdom.
The sage whose mind is not disturbed by sorrow,
who does not crave pleasure, who is free from
attachment, fear, and anger, is called a person of
steady wisdom.
One who is not attached to anything, who neither
rejoices nor hates when obtaining good or bad, such
a person’s wisdom is steady.
When, like a tortoise withdrawing its limbs, one
withdraws the senses from objects, then wisdom
becomes steady.
Even when one abstains from sense objects, the
taste for them remains; but when one sees the
Supreme, even that taste disappears.
The senses are so powerful that they forcibly carry
away the mind of even a wise person who strives to
control them.
One who controls the senses by yoga, focusing the
mind on Supreme, such a person’s wisdom is
steady.
